Book Summary:

“I want to believe, I want to have hope, but…” Pastor and bestselling author Craig Groeschel hears these words often and has asked them himself. We want to know God, feel his presence, and trust that he hears our prayers, but in the midst of great pain, we may wonder if he really cares about us. Even when we have both hope and hurt, sometimes it’s the hurt that shouts the loudest. Can God be good when life is not? In Hope in the Dark, Groeschel explores the story of the father who brought his demon-possessed son to Jesus, saying, “I believe! Help my unbelief!” In the man’s sincere plea, Jesus heard the tension in the man’s battle-scarred heart. He healed not only the boy but the father too, driving out the hopelessness that had overtaken him. He can do the same for us today. As Groeschel shares his pain surrounding the current health challenges of his daughter, he acknowledges the questions we may ask in our own deepest pain: “Where was God when I was being abused?” “Why was my child born with a disability?” “Why did the cancer come back?” “Why are all my friends married and I’m alone?” He invites us to wrestle with such questions as we ask God to honor our faith and heal our unbelief. In the middle of your profound pain, you long for authentic words of understanding and hope. You long to know that even in overwhelming reality, you can still believe that God is good. Rediscover a faith in the character, power, and presence of God. Even in the questions. Even now.

Book Summary:

When I was getting ready to write this, book the Holy Spirit took me back to the time when I was still in the world. Every time I heard the gospel preached to me it appeared so foolish for me to understand. I couldn’t understand why people would make such a big deal about being saved. It was like voices were saying in my mind, that what was being preached is not true. God will not let me go to hell I am a good person. It was like my mind was fighting the truth and Biblical facts that I couldn’t deny. I don’t know how many times I tried to stop bad addictions such as smoking; I will be able to stop for a few days only to fall back again. This was what the Bible refers to as strongholds. The devil was manipulating me all along and I wasn’t aware at all. This is his main agenda, to make people blind; he is out to make them think in the way that is contrary to the truth of Gods word. And he achieves it by deception. He deceives a person to the point that they can’t see their faults. The Bible calls him a father of lies. There are millions of people today that are deceived by the devil, even some of which are saved and not fully grown and are subject to demonic deception, that is why I am writing this book...

Book Summary:

American soldiers have provided medical aid to civilians in many wars, and no less in the Vietnam War, where there were more than forty million contacts between U.S. medical personnel and Vietnamese civilians. Robert J. Wilensky, using data derived from extensive archival research as well as his personal experience in Vietnam, shows how medical aid to Vietnamese civilians, at first based simply on good will, became policy. The original Medical Civic Action Program (MEDCAP), by which unit medical teams treated civilians in their area, soon expanded to other acronymically designated programs: the Military Provincial Hospital (later Health) Assistance Program (MILPHAP), the Civilian War Casualty Program (CWCP), and the Provincial Health Assistance Program (PHAP). Although MEDCAP treated many, American doctors were uniformly unhappy about the superficial care they were able to give. Labs, x-ray machines, and surgery were not 04 Activeable at the unit level; follow-up was sketchy or nonexistent. Other programs became so politicized that they were almost ineffective. Coordination with the government of South Vietnam was poor, creating areas that were underserved. Most important, there is no evidence that the good will built by U.S. doctors transferred to South Vietnamese forces. American programs may have emphasized the inability of the Republic of Vietnam to provide basic health care to its own people and may have demonstrated to Vietnamese civilians that foreign soldiers cared more for them than their own troops did. If that is the case, the programs actually did more harm than good in the attempt to win hearts and minds.

Book Summary:

Soldiers and athletes. One engages in a good fight; the other runs to win a prize. But both soldiers and athletes know they must have a mental edge to successfully deal with everything they encounter. They know victory will never occur unless they’ve first won their internal battles. In I Declare War, author and pastor Levi Lusko shows how the same is true for Christians. God has called each of us to an important assignment—to win the battle and claim the prize—but to fulfill that calling we first have to win the war within. Levi draws from the Bible to show four ways to fight this internal battle: Key #1: Discover Your Calling Key #2: Prepare for the Trial Key #3: Learn Self-Control Key #4: Rely on God’s Power Levi draws on stories from his own life to show how God can help us wage war against issues that rob us of joy such as depression, fear, anxiety, addiction, negative thoughts, pride, jealousy, resentment, anger, self-doubt, and codependent relationships. While Levi does not offer a quick fix or promise the “perfect life” if participants follow all the steps, he does point toward the hope that God provides as we commit to fight the good fight through all the pain, sweat, and tears that each day brings. Sessions include: The War Raging Within Identity Crisis (Calling) Hell Week (Trials) Hostile Takeover (Self-Control) Dying to Self (God’s Power) Designed for use with I Declare War Video Study (9780310094913), sold separately.
