Book Summary:

This book is not published to tell us that there is sin and woe and misery in this world. We know it all too well. This book is not published to tell us that there is an irreconcilable controversy between darkness and light, sin and righteousness, wrong and right, death and life. In our heart of hearts we know it, and know that we are participators, actors, in the conflict. But to every one of us comes at times a longing to know more of the great controversy. How did the controversy begin? or was it always here? What elements enter into its awfully complex aspect? How am I related to it? What is my responsibility? I find myself in this world by no choice of my own. Does that mean to me evil or good? It is the aim of this book, reader, to help the troubled soul to a right solution of all these problems. It is written by one who has tasted and found that God is good, and who has learned in communion with God and the study of His word that the secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him, and that He will show them His covenant.

Book Summary:

This writing is the result of the research by two men, Clarence C. Crisler, secretary to Ellen G. White, and Harry Harvey Hall, manager of the Book Department at Pacific Press. Their work was presented to Mrs. White for approval and translated into Spanish by Pr. Eduardo Forga from Peru. The work of brothers Crisler and Hall that, with Mrs. White's permission, became part of The Great Controversy in Spanish, is titled El Despertar de España (The Awakening of Spain). Unfortunately, the English original of their work has since been lost. Nonetheless, its reading in Spanish left such an impact in me when I first read The Great Controversy, that I am compelled to share it and have translated it into English. As you read in this book the fine and dedicated research authored by brothers Crisler and Hall, it is my prayer, as expressed in tracts from the Reformation, that faith elevates you to God, and love causes you to reach down to humanity, while still abiding always with God.

Book Summary:

2011 Reprint of 1858 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. In Seventh-day Adventist theology the "Great Controversy" theme refers to the cosmic battle between Jesus Christ and Satan, and also played out on earth. The concept is derived from many visions White claimed to have received, scriptural references, and is delineated in the book "The Great Controversy," first published in 1858, by Ellen G. White, a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The concept is important in Adventist theology because it provides an understanding of the origin of evil, and of the eventual destruction of evil and the restoration of God's original purpose for this world. It constitutes belief number 8 of the church's 28 Fundamentals. Specifically, the belief holds that all humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary. He led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation.

Book Summary:

This is the book Ellen G. White has been accused of copying. H.L. Hastings' "The Great Controversy between God and Man" was published in January, 1858, and was reviewed by James White just months before he published his wife's own version of "The Great Controversy." Included is Ellen White's original 1858 version - much different than the oft-revised edition promoted today. Both books in this one volume! By comparing these two Great Controversies of 1858, you can determine for yourself the extent of E.G. White's inspiration from visions, and inspiration from one of the most popular Second Advent Movement writers of her time - Horace L. Hastings.

Book Summary:

This edition of The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan - Ellen White's history of Christianity - is unabridged with all forty-two chapters, the appendix, and the original notes included. Throughout her detailed and lengthy treatise, White focuses upon the conflict between Jesus Christ and Satan across various periods of Christian history. Beginning with the Destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, we advance chronologically through the early Christian persecutions, to the Renaissance-era Reformations of Europe, and to the spread of Christian beliefs around the world and particularly to America. In this text, White presents Christian history and events as signifying the cosmic battle of duality between Jesus Christ and Satan. The various incidents described are, according to White, manifestations of this battle on Earth. Key players such as the Papacy, together with various saints and prophets are also described as playing influential parts in the ongoing battle. We are also told that the future holds further conflict, and that eventually - with faith and belief sustained by adherents - Satan will be driven out for good. It is through this process that the world will become again the exclusive province of God, with the Earthly lives of mankind characterized by greater harmony and peace thereafter. Ellen G. White was one of the foremost early leaders within the Seventh-Day Adventist church. It is her doctrine - inspired by many visions she had, corresponding with her intensive study of many Christian scriptures and texts - which holds prominent place in Adventist theology to this day. Of the twenty-eight fundamentals belonging to this denomination, this book represents the eighth: That Jesus Christ arose literally and bodily from the grave.

Book Summary:

The author reveals how grace is the heart of the gospel'a liberating, life-giving and comforting melody throughout the Bible. Grace is our certainty of eternal life and God's all-encompassing acceptance. Without grace, our religious beliefs are bad news, thus this book's advice, Grace: never leave home without it! Learn how God's grace is absolute and all inclusive; something we never deserve or earn! Grace offers the most refreshing peace we will ever know. Grace is the solution to every problem and menacing crisis threatening our planet. Rightly understood, grace points exclusively and continuously to Jesus. Then why is God's gift of grace so controversial or even difficult for Christians to accept? Could it be because grace is totally unbelievable, unexpected and undeserved? Is this why legalism, the enemy of grace, is so common and hard to recognize in ourselves? Grappling with these questions, the author reveals how, from Eden to our day, cradled at the very heart of the great controversy is grace.

Book Summary:

The Protestant Reformers loved their church, but they loved God's Word even more. "The Bible and the Bible only as the rule of law and practice" was their motto. Martin Luther, John Calvin, William Tyndale, and others pointed people to the Bible, not the church, as the supreme source of truth. Their convictions broght them into heated controversy with the religioius establishment of their day. But their passion for the truths of Scripture led them to stand firm for their convictions despite intense persecution and even death. Five hundred years later, have we forgotten the principles for which these courageous Christians struggled and sacrificed? In too many churchs, members rest their faith on a preacher or a creed rather than on the Holy Scriptures. Most people today are no more eager to follow an unpopular truth than were the church leaders of the sixteenth century...The experience of the Reformers contains vital lessons for our time. If you've forgotten that history - or perhaps you've never heard it - you need to read this book..." from the back cover.

This Pioneer edition is a return to yester-year with some 100 annotated illustrations of a century ago, and full unabridged, original text. This volume is a portrayal of the history and future of the Christian Church from the destruction of ancient Jerusalem in A.D. 70 until the establishment of the New Jerusalem as God's eternal capital of the universe on this earth restored, with emphasis upon the end-time prophecies of Daniel and the Revelation. A clear description is provided of the over-arching great controversy between Christ and Satan, which began in heaven but is presently battling over the souls of mankind and will be brought to an end here on this earth. The reader of this volume will understand clearly the deceptions that Satan has been, presently is, and will be using in the near future to mislead the majority of humanity to fight against, rather than be prepared for Christ's eternal kingdom of glory and peace. The biblical explanations regarding the AntiChrist, the False Prophet, the Wine of Babylon, the Mark of the Beast, the Wrath of God, and many other important issues are discussed in their clarity. Book Summary:

"The Lord has shown me that Satan was once an honored angel in heaven, next to Jesus Christ. His countenance was mild, expressive of happiness like the other angels. His forehead was high and broad, and showed great intelligence. His form was perfect. He had noble, majestic bearing. And I saw that when God said to his Son, Let us make man in our image, Satan was jealous of Jesus. He wished to be consulted concerning the formation of man. He was filled with envy, jealousy and hatred. He wished to be the highest in heaven, next to God, and receive the highest honors. Until this time all heaven was in order, harmony and perfect subjection to the government of God."-Ellen G White
