Book Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Iduna harbors a dark secret. On the surface, she is an Arendellian village girl, an aspiring inventor, and the best friend of Prince Agnarr, but she is also secretly Northuldra. Ever since the day the forest fell, Arendellians have despised and distrusted Northuldra with a vengeance. No matter that the Northuldra—along with some of Arendelle’s own—have been trapped in the Enchanted Forest behind an impenetrable wall of mist since the day of the battle. Iduna doesn’t know why the mist refuses to part, or why it descended to begin with. The only clear thing is that she must keep her identity from everyone, even Agnarr. Her life depends on it. Fortunately for her, Agnarr doesn’t know that Iduna is the Northuldra girl he saw seemingly flying on a gust of wind all those years ago, the day of the celebration turned disaster. The day Agnarr lost his father, the king. The day Agnarr himself almost died. What Agnarr does know is that Iduna is a true ally in the face of his royal responsibilities and the expectations of an overbearing council and a well-meaning regent who will rule in Agnarr’s place until he turns twenty-one and assumes the Arendellian throne. As Iduna and Agnarr grow ever closer, however, friendship is no longer enough. If only falling for each other didn’t mean risking their futures: Iduna’s as a hidden-in-plain-sight citizen of Arendelle, and Agnarr’s as imminent king. But for a chance at true love, the risk might be worth taking

Book Summary:

Written over a thirty-five year period, these essays reflect the changes in J. Hillis Miller’s thinking on Victorian topics, from an early concern with questions of consciousness, form, and intellectual history, to a more recent focus on parable and the development of a deconstructive ethics of reading. Miller defines the term “Victorian subjects” in more than one sense. The phrase identifies an historical time but also names a concern throughout with subjectivity, consciousness, and selfhood in Victorian literature. The essays show various Victorian subjectivities seeking to ground themselves in their own underlying substance or in some self beneath or beyond the self. But “Victorian subjects” also discusses those who were subject to Queen Victoria, to the reigning ideologies of the time, to historical, social, and material conditions, including the conditions under which literature was written, published, distributed, and consumed. These essays, taken together, sketch the outlines of ideological assumptions within the period about the self, interpersonal relations, nature, literary form, the social function of literature, and other Victorian subjects.

Book Summary:

When regret of one decision from your past alters the direction of your life... After a long winter in the remote Teton Mountains, Anna Porter is convinced that she's not cut out for wilderness living. Her heart yearns for a place where she'll feel at home, and she's ready to continue the journey she started a year ago along the Oregon Trail. Without an escort, she may be forced to marry a stranger out of necessity . . . until the least likely man agrees to accompany her. Ethan Wilder has spent the last twelve years living with guilt and painful memories. Determined to prevent anyone from getting through his angry exterior, he remains distant and callous, even with those closest to him. When a series of mishaps brings him in close contact with the quiet woman who has spent the winter on his homestead, he believes the only way to get her out of his thoughts is to take her as far away as possible. The best laid plans don't always work out as expected, as Ethan and Anna soon discover. Traveling to a new land brings two hurt and lonely people together in the most unexpected way. If Anna can chisel through the granite wall Ethan has built around his heart, home might be closer than she ever imagined. *** Content: mild language, mild violence, intimacy (mild description) between married adults.
